Bryan starts 175m Rainy Day Ramble

On Saturday October 6, Bryan Clover, ceo of The Rainy Day Trust will start walking 175m on the Cornish Coastal path from Newquay round to Mevagissey over seven days to raise funds for the industry charity’s 175th anniversary year. Bryan aims to complete “almost a marathon” on a daily basis. Sponsors from the housewares industry so far include KitchenCraft, Lawsons and Martin Elliott at Home Hardware.

Anticipating the challenge of covering 175 miles in a week, Bryan comments: “On the flat that wouldn’t be too bad: a steady plod and a longish day, but around the tip of Cornwall it’s a different beast altogether.  The route planning shows 28,000 feet of climb to be covered, which puts a different perspective on the whole venture.”

He continues: “The Rainy Day Trust is 175 years old this year, so the challenge had to be something to match that.  I’ve been training for months now, and am looking forward to the rugged beauty of the walk, but have to admit to being nervous about the toll that it is going to take on me.  If last year’s walk around Pembrokeshire is anything to go by, I’ll be burning over 5,000 calories a day and expect to lose about 12 lbs in weight over the week! “

Members of the housewares industry can embark on their own sponsored challenge as part of the #Challenge175 anniversary celebrations.
