The 2019 Retail Barometer survey – organised by Progressive Housewares magazine, HousewaresNews.net and The British Independent Retailers’ Association (bira) – is now open to all independent cookshops and housewares stockists. It provides a unique opportunity to present the reality of housewares retailing focusing solely on the experiences of independents.
The Retail Barometer is designed to be easy to complete online, asking independents to reflect on 2018, look forward, and voice their opinions on positive and negative influences on business.
The collective results will be published in Progressive Housewares’ (PH) March/April 2019 issue (with coverage on HousewaresNews.net) and will be widely read by housewares suppliers and retailers.
“We constantly hear about retail from the perspective of the multiples in the mainstream media, so the PH/bira Retail Barometer is our chance to recognise the experiences, challenges and achievements of housewares independents,” said Jo Howard, editor of PH and HousewaresNews.net.
She continued: “I urge all independent cookshops and housewares retailers to complete whatever they can of the Retail Barometer to help create a big picture, which can galvanise action to make a stronger future for indies.”
Independent department stores, independent garden centres, hardware stores and general merchandisers are asked to focus on the housewares sector of their business when filling in the survey.
All individual responses remain confidential, with any comments that are published presented anonymously. The survey (now in its 14th year) has hitherto focussed on bira Cookshop and Housewares members.
The deadline for responses for the 2019 Retail Barometer is Friday March 1 2019.
All independents that take part in the survey will be entered into a prize draw for a case of wine/hamper of edible goodies (sourced from an independent retailer).
