The fifth of BHETA’s popular webinars took place this week (May 14) with online marketplace eBay. This was the first webinar featuring a retailer.
eBay head of trading Chris Gardner and category manager for home and garden Rosalind Bridges talked about eBay’s background and trading strategy and why housewares stockists should sell on the platform. They provided a ‘tour’ of the site, discussed eBay’s best match algorithm and marketing tools and explained how suppliers can get on board. They also answered questions from webinar attendees.
eBay Inc was founded in 1995 in San Jose, California and now facilitates consumer-to-consumer and business-to-consumer sales through its multinational website. During the Covid-19 pandemic, eBay has offered what it describes as a free ‘online shop window’ for small businesses during lockdown. It has launched a 30-day payment holiday for all 300,000 UK businesses already registered on the site; and new businesses registering on ebay.co.uk will not have to pay fees to list or sell until May 31.
BHETA’s marketing manager, Steve Richardson reports that the association’s webinar formula (launched in April) is proving popular with housewares suppliers. Other webinar subjects have included the legal issues for employers arsing from the pandemic, maximising digital presence on Amazon, BHETA’s forthcoming Exclusively Digital show, and the impending tax on packaging waste.
BHETA’s chief operating officer, Will Jones comments: “BHETA is keen to show that business can adapt and continue at this critical time and it’s great that technology is enabling us not only to keep talking and providing crucial advice, but also to help our supplier members and retail allies to keep trading.”
The next webinar features AFEX on Thursday May 21 at 10:30am, covering
* The volatility of foreign exchange through the Covide-19 crisis
* Details of the AFEX complimentary trade audit and risk assessment consultation
* How to mitigate risk
