Ambiente explores trends

Housewares buyers and manufacturers are missing Frankfurt’s Ambiente this month, but they can still view three major trends that would usually be presented at the trade show. Ambiente Trends 2021 (researched and curated by the design studio Stilbüro bora.herke.palmisano) are presented on a dedicated website ambiente-trends.com.

“The year 2020 has fundamentally changed our social and economic behaviour. Against this backdrop, the Ambiente Trends offer valuable impetus for the coming business year, even without an on-site event,” says Nicolette Naumann, vice president Ambiente.

Three trend themes have been selected for 2021: “emotional, love of home”, “continual. related to nature” and “renewal. notion of redo”.

The ‘love of home’ theme embracesvelvety-warm vintage colours such as peach, blush, washed-out forget-me-not blue, nude and nectar yellow create a familiar and soothing living environment’.

The ‘related to nature’ encompasses materials that bring nature into the home, including   ‘painterly glazes or deliberately imperfect surfaces’ as well as ‘earthy browns, greys and vegetative green’ tones.

Meanwhile, the ‘notion of redo’ trend invites new perspectives and redesigns, with colours including dark crimson, bright sunshine red, sky violet, pink, orange, fresh blue algae green, cloud grey and ocean blue.

*Messe Frankfurt’s Consumer Goods Digital Day takes place on April 20. The online event will bring together buyers and Ambiente exhibitors, including What More, whose director Tony Grimshaw comments: “There’s such diversity at Ambiente. Going online will mean doing things differently. It is uncharted water and we’re excited to see where it takes us.”
