Localism is most positive factor for indies

The ‘shop local’ trend tops the list of ‘positive influences on business’ for 2020, according to Progressive Housewares’ Retail Barometer.  Never having been in the list before, it is significantly ahead of other factors, with nearly half of all respondents selecting this as their number one ‘positive influence.’

In the 16th annual Retail Barometer – published in the latest edition of Progressive Housewares – independent cookshops and housewares retailers look back over 2020 and forward into 2021 and beyond.

There are several other new entrants to the list of positive influences on business, including, of course, the rise of home cooking during lockdowns at number four, government support at number two, and click and collect at number six.

A ‘must read’ for the housewares industry, other highlights of the Retail Barometer include the fact that 76% of Retail Barometer respondents saw their customers’ ‘average spend’ go up in 2020.

For the full findings of the 16th annual Retail Barometer, see PH March/April 2021.
