Rainy Day Trust’s Bryan is walking 84 miles in 48 hours

In his latest fundraising effort, The Rainy Day Trust’s ceo Bryan Clover is attempting to walk 84 miles in just 48 hours! Bryan started walking this morning at 7am (September 17), covering the 84m (134km or 168,000 steps) from Bath to eastern Reading. He will be burning around 8,000-10,000 during his epic journey. Major sponsors of Bryan’s challenge include Dexam, Burton McCall, Home Hardware and Stax.

Walking solo, Bryan is carrying around 40lbs, including a change of clothes, first aid kit, torches, power packs, water and food. Following a route along the Kennet and Avon Canal, he is being met at regular intervals with refreshments by sponsor South West builders merchants Kellaway Building Supplies (having started from the company’s Bath branch).

All money raised will support the Rainy Day Trust’s mental health programme, helping those who work or have worked in the housewares, tableware and hardware industries. “Walking is proven to be really good for your mental health as well as just general physical health,” states Bryan. “Mental health benefits from the bilateral movement associated with walking. I have been preparing for this challenge by walking and participating in other organised walks in my local area.

“My main challenge will be ensuring I take on enough fuel to keep my energy levels up! I’m hugely grateful to Kellaway Building Supplies who will be meeting me at regular stops along the way with food and water. Thanks too to our other major sponsors Dulux, Home Hardware, Stax, Dexam and Burton McCall.”

Bryony Dyer, managing director at Dexam comments: “Bryan is a powerhouse – at Dexam we totally admire his energy and drive when it comes to fundraising for our brilliant industry charity! So we are very happy to sponsor his latest epic adventure and urge our colleagues in housewares to support him too!”

PrintBryan aims to complete between 53 and 55 miles in the first 24 hours, leaving ‘just’ 30 miles for Day 2. “If all goes to plan, I hope to finish in around 40 hours, approximately 10pm on Saturday night,” said Bryan. “You can find the full itinerary on our social media pages so please do come and join me at any point of the journey and of course you can support me via the Bryan Clover page on Virgin Money Giving.”

Bryan is particularly looking forward to the bacon sandwich the Kellaway team will be providing at the final stop on the trip!
