Robert Welch resolves IP matters

Anti Copying in Design (ACID) member Robert Welch Designs has successfully resolved several intellectual property (IP) matters with major UK kitchen knife brands.

The matters were regarding claims of registered design and copyright infringement related to its best-selling Signature Kitchen Knife range.

Following decisive action, Robert Welch has reached amicable out of court settlements including undertakings to cease the sale and distribution of the knives in question, along with the payment of royalties in recognition of the use of Robert Welch’s unique and best-selling designs. These settlements play an important role in ensuring the continued success of the Signature range by safeguarding Robert Welch’s distinctive designs.

Rupert Welch, managing director of Robert Welch, said: “We are proud of the innovative design and craftsmanship that goes into every one of our products, and we are deeply committed to protecting our intellectual property. These outcomes demonstrate our dedication to upholding our brand and supporting the work of our talented design team. Our priority remains ensuring our business continues to thrive for the benefit of our employees and customers.”

Nick Kounoupias, ACID’s chief counsel, added: “The swift resolution of these matters underscores the strength of Robert Welch’s Signature range and highlights the importance of protecting its global intellectual property portfolio.”

Dids Macdonald OBE, co-founder of ACID, stated: “IP respect, ethics and compliance are paramount. ACID sincerely hopes these companies remain respectful of why Robert Welch needed to take action in order to protect the Signature Knife Collection and their Intellectual Property.”

Robert Welch remains focused on providing customers with high-quality, uniquely designed kitchen knives that elevate culinary experiences worldwide.
