All Wilko stores to close as rescue bid fails

PwC confirmed yesterday (Monday 11 September, 2023), that all Wilko stores will disappear from the high street by early October.

The news comes as the rescue deal by HMV owner, Doug Putman, collapsed, and will lead to a likely 12,500 redundancies. Around 300 Wilko stores, as well as the distribution centres, will close over the next weeks. PwC sold 51 sites to B&M for £13m.

Doug Putman told The Sun: “It is with great disappointment that we can non longer continue in the purchase process for Wilko having worked with administrators and suppliers over several weeks to seek a viable way to rescue it as a going concern.”

The first stores will close today, with more ceasing to trade throughout the week, and all outlets are due to close by early next month.
