Amazon is getting set for what it claims to be its biggest-ever Black Friday sale. The online giant promises more deals than in previous years over a 10-day period. Its online Black Friday Deals Store will open from November 16 to November 25, with Black Friday itself falling on November 23. Housewares will be among ‘deals of the day’ as well as limited timing ‘lightening deals.’
Following its success last year, Amazon is to open a ‘pop-up experience’ in London’s Shoreditch for four days from November 22-25. The ‘experience’ will be open for 24 hours on Black Friday itself. Activities will include cooking demonstrations and cocktail masterclasses.
“We know many of our customers are starting to think about Christmas presents, parties and decorations at this time of year and we’re excited to offer great deals when shoppers need them most,” commented Doug Gurr, Amazon UK country manager. He added: “We hope customers will enjoy the new AR view feature in the app, which uses augmented reality technology to allow shoppers to see selected products in their own home before they decide to buy.”
In recent years, Black Friday has become a major event in the UK’s shopping calendar. Philip Morris Direct is among the independent cookshops and housewares stockists that get involved with promotions. Managing director of Philip Morris, John Jones explained: “Black Friday and Cyber Monday are two of our biggest days for orders. Black Friday is a psychological trigger for many consumers to start shopping rather than the discount lead event that it was a few years ago. We have offers running through Black Friday week, which helps to focus consumers’ attention.”
