Project Waterfall has team up with Barista & Co to bring The Big Water Walk to Bournemouth beach front on Wednesday 22 March, 2023.
Hundreds of baristas and coffee lovers are set to take part in the new event, which aims to raise awareness for the communities which have to walk for hours every day to collect their water.
The walk will offer a 5k and 10k route, starting and finishing at Bournemouth Pier, and each company has to carry 40 litres of seawater – the equivalent to two jerry cans. On average, a jerry can of water weighs 20kg. Water weight can be carried in any format or vessel. Participants are encouraged to raise funds to support Project Waterfall’s latest project in the Berbere district of Ethiopia.
There will also be official walks taking place in London and Liverpool and participants can also sign up and design their own routes in their local area.
Project Waterfall’s campaign is part of World Water Day, a celebration of water held annually on 22 March to raise awareness of the water crisis. Throughout March, businesses across the UK will be encouraged to get creative with fundraising idea to support the cause and help make a difference in coffee growing communities.
James Gray, founder of Barista & Co, who are expecting around 30 staff members and members of the local community to attend the event, commented: “As part of our commitment to 1% for the Planet, we have been supporting the Project Waterfall for five year and our fundraising events support this further.”
