Home cooks and budding chefs will be recognised with the launch of the new ‘Inspiring Culinary Generations’ competition for 2020/2021 – promoting culinary skills to the benefit of the housewares industry. Sponsors include Teflon non-stick coatings, the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts, ChefSet and Thermapen. The annual competition was previously known as the Teflon Diamond Standard Awards.
TV chef Lesley Waters will head up the judging panel, with competition prizes including a life-changing Specialised Chefs Scholarship for the winning student chefs, a selection of ‘chef recommended’ kitchenware for the family cook and a luxury hamper full of cooking goodies for the home cook. The competition supports the charity Hospitality Action.
The Awards categories include: Aspiring Student Chefs (11-18 years – to submit and cook a signature dish); (new category) Keen Family Cooks (a team of an under 18 and a parent/grandparent/guardian over 18 – to submit and cook a classic dish with a family twist), plus Keen Home Cooks (19 years and over – to submit and cook their signature dinner party menu).
Meanwhile, a new social media initiative #LetsCreateChefs is encouraging generations to work together, share passions and inspire each other to cook and bake during the lockdown and beyond. Consumers can tweet / post photos and videos via @icgcompetition on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to be celebrate and shared. These activities could motivate a Keen Family Cook competition entry or win a spot prize.
