Dunelm Group’s update on recent trading acknowledges strong sales during July and August. Total year over year sales growth was up 59% in July and up 24% in August. The homewares and housewares chain acknowledges this was ‘partly as a result of pent up demand following the store closure period’ as well as the timing of its summer sale.
“This performance reflects the strength of our proposition within a resilient homewares market, positive footfall growth to our mainly out-of-town superstores and continued strong growth in our home delivery offer,” reports Laura Carr, chief financial officer.
Laura describes Dunelm’s performance so far this year as “materially ahead of our initial expectation” but acknowledges that it is difficult to predict future outlook “given the uncertainty in the wider economy and the potential impact of further regional or national lockdowns.” However, the chain is optimistic about its ability to adapt to challenges.
Dunelm is due to provide a more detailed update as part of its preliminary results announcement on September 10 2020.
