Coffee machines, blenders, irons, vacuum cleaners and microwaves are among the domestic appliances on eBay UK’s newly launched Certified Refurbished Hub.
The online retailer has responded to consumer demand for upgrading their homes with ‘like-new for less’ items – a trend that has been significant during lockdowns. According to eBay, searches for refurbished coffee machines have increased by over a third (35%).
High demand also reflects consumer attitudes towards sustainability, recognising that buying refurbished appliances means saving products from landfill.
With over 70 brands so far – including Tefal, Dyson, Hoover, Krups, AEG and Russell Hobbs – eBay’s Certified Refurbished Hub covers home goods, technology, garden, hair and beauty appliances.
Products are sold in a pristine, like-new condition, having been inspected, cleaned and refurbished by either the manufacturer itself, or a manufacturer-approved seller. They also come with a 12-month guarantee and are protected by eBay’s Money Back Guarantee.
“The demand for refurbished items has soared in the last year as it is a more affordable way to shop ‘like-new’ items from top brands without the heavy price tag,” states Matt Potter, head of Certified Refurbished at eBay UK.
“When people think of refurb they tend to think of tech items first but there is so much more. We have everything from Dyson hair dryers, Simba mattresses and top of the range vacuums from the likes of Shark.”
Sellers on eBay’s marketplace have also been benefitting from increased demand for refurbished appliances. For example, in 2020, eBay seller ClearCycle saw sales of its refurbished appliance sore by 271% year on year, with over 2,000 NutriBullets resold at 50% discount.
