Excellence in Housewares Awards 2024: The Winners

The winners of this year’s Excellence in Housewares Awards have been crowned in a dazzling ceremony, attended by hundreds of industry execs at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London.

Once guests had enjoyed a champagne reception, courtesy of Burton McCall, they were seated and took part in the traditional game of higher or lower, before buying tickets for the raffle, in aid of the Rainy Day Trust and The Light Fund.

The evening concluded with Theo Paphitis being honoured with the Outstanding Achievement Award for his services to retail overall and his housewares retailing success with his Robert Dyas operation.

During his speech, Rob Willis, coo and joint owner of Max Publishing, commented: “Looking back on those who have been crowned with this special accolade in the past, you get a real sense for those who have helped shape industry. This gong has been given to incredible people on the supplier side, retailers both independent and sizeable, individuals of note such as Seema and my former colleague Jo Howard. It’s quite moving to survey the journey and gives me, as the writer of this tome, a sense of history and heraldry.

“That feeling has been much the same in discussions over the last few months about this year’s recipient, who is not re-engaging – for they are never not engaged with their work – but have taken the Covid years as a great excuse to get stuck back into the bit they do best, some old school trading.”
