Going Bananas: social media food trends revealed

Cookshops and housewares retailers will be keen to stock up on loaf tins and woks following new research by Exante on the world’s most popular food trends. Banana bread is proclaimed the world’s trendiest food, with over 275 million views on TikTok and two million posts on Instagram. 

The research analyses TikTok views, Instagram posts and Google searches of the world’s most popular food trends.

Viral desserts prove to be the most popular food trends on social media platforms, with banana bread beating other sweet treats in the top ten, including crème brûlée, ice cream cake and mug cake.

Chinese food is the most popular cuisine on social media, with an annual search volume of 32 million in the last year.

Meanwhile, pizza is the most popular dish of all time on social media, with 14.8 billion views on TikTok alone.
