The latest issue of Inspiration magazine from the International Housewares Association (IHA) features Harrods in its article on the 2018 gia (Global Innovation Award) Global Honorees. An article about the ‘aspirational moment’ in retailing by retail expert Anne Kong also includes Harrods.
The issue is packed with useful advice for retailers, including two articles by visual merchandising guru, Martin M Pegler. Martin discusses how to increase impulse purchases and why retailers should ‘add history’ to their displays.
Referring to the feel good powers of nostalgia, Martin suggests drawing on old films for visual references. For example, when displaying Italian tableware, retailers could evoke a scene in an Italian café reminiscent of a black and white film. He envisages: ‘Bogart and Baccall sipping wine from a straw encased bottle resting on a red and white checked cloth (grey and white in the original), sitting on bentwood chairs and illuminated by flickering candles.’
The magazine (available worldwide in its digital format) also features the most recent gia Global Honorees for Product Design, including Joseph Joseph’s Flex Toilet Brush and Titan Bin. It also provides insights into Colour Palettes for 2019 from the Pantone Institute’s Leatrice Eiseman, who will be making her popular annual addresses to the housewares industry at next March’s International Home + Housewares Show (March 2-5).
