Homebase is one of the major retailers and housewares stockists to join with the Home Office and independent charity Crimestoppers to urge consumers to ‘ShopKind’ after the reopening of more shops across the UK.
Launching yesterday (April 19) with content on social media and in high streets, the ShopKind campaign recognises the problem of abuse and violence towards shopworkers, with at least 400 reports of abuse every day.
The #ShopKind campaign urges consumers to be mindful of shopworkers’ essential role in supporting people during these difficult times, and emphasises that we should all treat workers and fellow customers with respect, kindness and gratitude. It recognises the extra roles that shopworkers have taken on due to the pandemic, for example: reminding customers to wear face coverings, maintain social distancing measures and supervise queues outside stores.
Damian McGloughlin, Homebase commented: “As an essential retailer, our store team members have continued to help and support our customers throughout the pandemic, and it saddens me to have seen an increase in abusive behaviour towards them. We stand firmly with other retailers and are committed to making the industry a safe place to work and shop. We’re proud to be supporting ShopKind because no one should have to tolerate any form of violence or abuse.”
