Irons that fight Covid-19

Independent tests have proven that irons and steam stations featuring patented Healthy technology from Spanish manufacturer SDA Factory can eradicate Covid-19 from any fabric.

SDA Factory has developed four steam station platforms and a steam iron platform featuring the Healthy technology, which has been tested by Virnostica, a technology company based in the Institute of Health Carlos III.

“Results showed a total reduction of the viable virus in cell culture of the ironed specimens compared with those obtained from untreated samples. The tested steam ironing systems provided a complete antiviral and disinfectant effect,” says Virnóstica.

Iñaki Castresana, SDA Factory’s general manager heralds the test results as “an international milestone,” elevating the sanitising capacity of small household appliances.“With this ironing solution there is no need to wash clothes at 60ºC (140ºF), which is very harmful for most fabrics,” states Iñaki, who highlights the World Health Organisation’s recommendations that clothes should be sanitised by washing at over 60ºC (whereas most clothing labels recommend washing at 30-40ºC).

Healthy technology incorporates two patents: a set temperature range to iron any fabric without damaging it (and at a higher temperature than any other steam iron), as well as a patented system to eject steam by pulses.

Besides the new tests showing effective in eradicating the SARS-CoV-2 virus, SDA Factory’s Healthy technology has previously undergone rigorous tests against viruses such as Lentivirus and with bacteria such as e-Coli in other prestigious laboratories (the University of Navarra and EURECAT-Technological Centre of Catalonia). These institutions endorsed an effectiveness of at least 99.98%.

SDA brands including Di4 from Spain and Zelmer from Poland are already marketing irons incorporating the Healthy technology.
