John Lewis and Lakeland take third and fifth places respectively in Which? magazine’s latest annual survey which asked over 7000 consumers (Which? subscribers) to rate the shops they had visited in the last six months. Customer scores for a table of over 100 shops rate overall satisfaction and the likelihood of recommending the retailer to a friend.
John Lewis scored 86% (coming just behind the top two shops, Richer Sounds – where staff’s advise is appreciated – and Rohan) while kitchenware specialist Lakeland scored an impressive 84%.
Other housewares stockists in the table include Argos, coming joint 20th with a 79% score, and Fenwick (joint 22nd) with 78%. In the middle of the table, Wilko scored 73% (joint 46th) and Home Bargains, M&S and Robert Dyas were joint 54th with 71%.
Further down the table, TK Maxx/Homesense shares the 73rd place, while Debenhams, The Range, B&M Bargains/Homestore and Selfridges all come in 79th.
Nearing the ‘worst’ spots is House of Fraser (at 102 with 59%). Homebase comes second to last (before WHSmith) at 108th with 53% – the home improvement chain dropped housewares during its ownership by Dunnings.
According to the research by Which?, the biggest ‘likes’ for in store shopping are being able to handle/try products, being able to take products home straight away, being able to ask staff questions and supporting high streets.
