Liz Lawson, managing director of Devon department store group, Lawsons has completed her cycling challenge to raise funds for the Rainy Day Trust in its 175th year.
A keen cyclist, Liz admits: “When I signed up to do three 100k sportives I knew it would be challenging but didn’t realise how hard it would be!”
In September, Liz participated in the Rapha Women’s 100 when women across the world cycled 100k from Plymouth. Her next 100k was the Lands End sportive. She reflects: “The weather was wet and very windy, and it was a lovely route around the coast of Cornwall but having a headwind all the way was like riding with your breaks on, so not so much fun! “
With her final sportive cancelled due to bad weather, Liz created her own 100k route across Dartmoor and invited anyone to join her. On October 21, Liz, her husband and three enthusiastic fellow Breeze riders set out in thick fog. However, Liz recounts: “The day developed into glorious sunshine and we enjoyed the best of Dartmoor, which was a great way to end my adventure. I have now raised just over £1200 and would like to thank everyone who has sponsored me. “
She adds: “I would encourage any women wanting to ride a bike to go to www.letsride.co.uk/breeze (Breeze women only rides organised and sponsored by HSBC) and find a ride to suit you and you will also find friendship, fun and fitness!”
