The brand has launched a search for the oldest working Morphy Richards appliance in the UK via its social media channels, Consumers are being asked to dig out their antique toasters and old irons, with the chance of winning a range of new Morphy Richards products. The owner of the oldest appliance may also be offered the opportunity to have it added to the Science Museum Group Collection as an example of technological innovation in the home.

Meanwhile Morphy Richards has teamed up with CBeebies presenter Grace Webb, from Grace’s Amazing Machines, to launch a summer holiday competition for children aged 4-11 years to design an appliance fit for the future.

Grace has created a dedicated online toolkit to guide children through the process, step-by-step, and spark their imaginations to help them design a useful appliance for the home.

The entries will be judged by an expert panel from Morphy Richards and The Science Museum in London, and three winners will receive vouchers to spend in The Science Museum’s online gift shop.

“During our 85-year history we’ve created thousands of ground-breaking products which have stood the test of time and we want to celebrate that, while also looking to the future,” explained Andreas Fredrikson, category director home at Morphy Richards. “We’re asking people to rummage around their kitchens and cupboards – or ask their grandparents and relatives to – to help us track down the oldest working Morphy Richards appliance.”

He continued: “We also want to engage with budding young inventors about what they think will be the most useful appliances around the home in years to come. The Appliance of the Future could be helpful in the kitchen, make cleaning up quicker or could be something that makes chores simpler.”

Looking to the past and future, Andreas added: “Morphy Richards started as a small independent business back in 1936 and has grown to become a household name – we’re keen to highlight this journey so that Morphy Richards continues to be the brand that consumers request through our trusted network of retailers.”

The closing date for the oldest working appliance search is this weekend: August 15 and the closing date for entries to the Appliance of the Future competition is August 30. Details of both campaigns can be found at www.morphyrichards.co.uk/morphy85
