Bake in Exeter – one of the Most Promising Newcomer finalists in the Excellence in Housewares Awards – has taken a specialist focus, because, as owner Natalie Bergin’s points out, “There is so much competition in general cookware.”
Natalie brings experience of the sector from her previous position at The Cook’s Shop in Exeter, which closed in January 2018. Recognising the interest in baking and cake making, Bake covers bakeware, related accessories, cake tins, bread-making equipment, and cake decorating including edible decorations.
Natalie also hosts sugarcraft flower workshops one or two evenings a week. “These are nice social events as people are increasingly spending their money on experiences,” notes Natalie, who also recognises the power of Instagram as a visual medium to share stunning sugarcraft creations.
Proving that enthusiasm for baking is not confined to the south west, three of Bake’s fellow finalists in the Most Promising Newcomer category – ie Brambles in Audlem, Chef’s Ware in Hastings and Wooden Spoon The Cookshop in Derby – have all expanded in their range of baking and sugarcraft products in the past year.
