Off to uni with John Lewis

John Lewis & Partners reported a 15% increase in sales of its own brand House products for the week ending August 17 – a week that saw sales down by 5.9% across the Home departments. The retailer attributed the boost for its House ranges to students preparing to go to university next month. ‘House’ products include kitchen and dining along with linens and other home furnishing and accessories.

Meanwhile, in the same week, Waitrose & Partners saw a rise of 9% in sales its home baking products. The retailer suggests that baking fervour is rising in the run-up to the first episode of The Great British Bake Off.

* Series 10 of The Great British Bake Off starts Tuesday 27th August at 8pm on Channel 4. The show has introduced its 2019 contestants on its website. See https://thegreatbritishbakeoff.co.uk/meet-class-2019/
