OXO continues 1% for the Planet partnership

Housewares brand, OXO, has continued its partnership with 1% for the Planet, donating over $100k to UK nonprofit partner, FareShare.

A proud member of 1% for the Planet for the past two years, OXO supports a growing network of nonprofits to tackle environmental issues that affect us all, pledging 1% of annual profits specifically to organisations that focus on sustainable food systems, food education and food recovery and access.

As part of its commitment to 1%, OXO donated $100k to UK-based charity, FareShare, helping to fund the equivalent of over 430,000 meals for those in need, living in the UK.

One of the UK’s largest food redistribution charities, the ongoing partnership sees OXO support a number of different projects tackling the environmental problem of food waste for social good, including Surplus with Purpose and FareShare’s core work.

The Surplus with Purpose scheme supports businesses in the food industry to cover the extra costs of redistributing edible surplus food to people who need it. Over the next year OXO’s funding will help get 5,100 tonnes of food – the equivalent of 237k meals – to people who need it instead of letting it go to waste.

The other half of OXO’s donation will allow FareShare to continue its core mission, which sees the charity source quality surplus food from food retailers, manufacturers and suppliers. This food is redistributed to a network of over 8,000 charities, all working to support communities and people in all corners of the UK. The donation from OXO will support the redistribution of over 199,000 meals  to people in need.

Maria Spagnuolo, senior marketing manager at OXO EMEA, said: “OXO has continued its partnership with 1% for the Planet for a third year, showing the brand’s ongoing commitment to greater environmental responsibility. It’s fantastic to see how OXO’s donation is making a real human impact across the UK, and we are looking forward to how this partnership will develop in the future.”

OXO will continue to donate money, time and resources to a carefully selected group of nonprofit organisations who are part of the 1% for the Planet program.

Kirsty Ford, head of fundraising at FareShare said: “We are so grateful to OXO for their continued support for FareShare. These invaluable donations help us get good-to-eat food to the people who need it rather than going to waste. Every day, the food we redistribute to a network of over 8,000 charities in every region helps to strengthen communities.

“From homelessness shelters and afterschool clubs to refuges and older people’s lunch clubs, these groups are all working harder than ever to provide people with a hand up, not a handout. OXO’s generous support for FareShare is instrumental in helping people affected by the cost of living crisis. This support means charities can unite more people through food to form connections and access essential support services. Thank you for helping FareShare make the food go further.”
