Celebrity cook, author and judge of The Great British Bake Off expressed some uplifting views during an interview on BBC Radio 4’s The World at One programme last week (Thursday April 2). She agreed that more consumers seem to be cooking and baking at home during the lockdown period, and speculates that they will continue.
Emphasing the importance of cooking and baking to lift the spirits, Prue said: ““I’ve always said cooking can save the world. “ She speculated that the rise in cooking from scratch – including bread making at home – will mean more people will enjoy this and then carry on cooking in the future: ”People will get a taste for cooking,” Prue observed.
She stated: “It’s not just about necessity… People need to do something uplifting.”
The celebrity also encouraged listeners to get kneading: “Everyone should make bread for a hundred different reasons.”
* Last week in the USA, The Washington Post reported ‘stress-baking’ and an increase in home cooks had lead to an egg shortage.
* The many online resources to help home cooks include a new online cooking show from the Twisted brand. Twisted’s new ‘Corner Shop Challenge’ is designed to help in lockdown.
