Bryan Clover, ceo of the Rainy Day Trust has published a message asking those who can to help others in need as energy bills soar.
Bryan’s message reads:
“Starting this month everyone, you, me and those that work with or for you, will get their first £66 credit on their utility bills from the government. I’m not going to get into a discussion about targeting the help or the rights and wrongs of how it is being delivered, but am going to ask you to have a think.
“Like many of you, I am in the fortunate position of being able to afford the increases in bills. I work full time as does my wife, and my RAF pension tops everything up. But so many others are in a totally different position. Applications for our help are running at triple historic levels and is only set to get worse. We are pushing out our energy saving packs and dealing with energy bill arrears every single day, all as we enter winter, and the position is set to get worse.
“I got an e-mail from Octopus Energy last week saying that my first instalment of £66 was being offset against my bill. There are 5 more instalments of £66 to come between now and next April making up the £400 that the government is giving everyone.
“So today, I have donated that £66 to the Rainy Day Trust to help another family with their bills. Will you do the same? Can you help us to help others, people that work for you perhaps or a retired couple that need to keep the heating on this winter. If you don’t need that £66 then I promise you that we can put it to good use. I have attached a photo as proof that I have kept my word. Over to you.”
