The Victorinox brand (distributed by Burton McCall and famous for the Swiss Army Knife) has received an unusual boost thanks to the inaugural episode of the new series of Doctor Who, played by Jodie Whittaker.
Having lost her sonic screwdriver, the Doctor creates a new version of the gadget from outer-space scrap and some cutlery. When explaining the gadget to her companions, she describes it as a “multi-purpose” tool: “Scanner, diagnostics, tin opener. More of a sonic Swiss army knife.”
The Doctor reinforces her description later in the episode, when she proudly presents her: “Swiss army sonic – now with added Sheffield steel.”
Best known in the housewares industry for its trusted kitchen knives, Victorinox was founded in 1884. Its founder developed the ‘Original Swiss Army Knife’ in 1897. Last year Victorinox reached a milestone in manufacturing its 500 millionth knife. Burton McCall have been distributing Victorinox exclusively in the UK for over 40 years and it continues be one of the company’s strongest brands.
