What More appoints new group HR manager

What More UK, manufacturer of Wham, has strengthened its HR department recently by promoting Sally Hulse to the position of group HR manager.

Sally takes over from Heather Howarth, who recently retired and her remit includes recruiting apprentices, people development and driving efficiencies within the department amongst other vital work. With a background in management, leading to a CIPD Level 5, Sally was the ideal candidate to continue looking after the diverse workforce.

Sally said: “We have a low staff turnover at What More, we have people who’ve been in the team for decades, as well as loyal young apprentices who are building their careers here. Having a stable team means that I can look at people development and moving people around departments rather than having to replace valuable staff.

“Everyone is fantastic here and we have some very good teams, and a happy workforce. It’s great to be able to go to recruitment events such as the Futures event at Accrington Stanley for year 11 students, and be able to show them what a variety of roles we have here at What More – from traditional engineering to design, and all the functional departments like IT and accounts. We have a career path for a wide variety of roles.

“One thing I’m looking to develop is our efficiency in our systems, to reduce paper and streamline our processes. I’ll also be working on our induction process to see if we can make any improvements, and I’m looking at different languages for our materials to ensure our non-native English speakers are taken care of to the best of our abilities when we’re passing over information.

“It’s a great time for What More, and I’m delighted to take up this position and see where I can take it.”

Company director, Tony Grimshaw OBE, commented: “Sally is a great choice to take on and develop our HR function, with her skills and experience. We have a happy workforce, which gives us the ability to focus on people development, while also ensuring we attract the best talent.”
