It has been confirmed that team members working at the named Wilko stores will be made redundant.
The locations of 52 Wilko stores which have failed to secure a rescue deal have been confirmed by administrators, PwC, this week.
Following the news on Tuesday that B&M has bought up to 51 stores for up to £13m, PwC has said that: “It is possible that further store closures may regrettably be necessary.” The fate of remaining stores depends on the outcome of ongoing discussions with potential buyers.
Edwards Williams, joint administrator for Wilko, commented: “In the absence of viable offers for the whole business, very sadly store closures and redundancies of team members from those stores are now necessary.
“The loss of these stores will be felt not only by the team members who served them with such dedication, including through the uncertainty of recent weeks, but also the communities which they have been a part of.”
The planned redundancies are in addition to the loss of 269 roles at Wilko’s support centre in Worksop, as well as 14 roles at the subsidiary, Kin Limited.
