Storms and transport issues did not deter buyers from enjoying Top Drawer last week (February 19-22, London Olympia), with a wide range of Home related brands as well as a wide variety of inspirational resources for retailers.
At Denby, design director Richard Eaton highlighted the success of the company’s new Kiln collection. “We’re delighted with the reaction to the range which builds on handmade aesthetics making each piece slightly different. Overall, it’s wonderful to be at such a good looking show, and to see such a huge of amount of new product, not just from the bigger brands but from the smaller designer-makers too.”
For Sue Ure, founder of Sue Ure Ceramics, a Gift of the Year (GOTY) finalist, the show was an opportunity to unveil her new Ambit collection, which features mugs and beakers. “Following a soft launch, Top Drawer is Ambit’s official launch,” confirmed Sue. “The beakers are especially versatile, and can be used for coffee or pudding, or for other purposes around the house to include as a plant holder. While the collection is currently in monochrome, I will be introducing colour later this year.”
Striking tableware from Concrete & Wax (another GOTY finalist) was among the conversation provoking products in Top Drawer’s Launchpad section. In another eye-catching area, visitors enjoyed the trends exhibited, curated in partnership with The Better Trends Company. Kitchenware and tableware were among the mix of exhibiting brands’ products representing trends including calming ‘Slow Rituals’ and boldly coloured ‘Positive Reinforcement.’
Top Drawer plans to build on the success of its new Meet the Maker sessions, which included celebrity ceramicist Keith Brymer (creative director of MAKE International and judge on TV’s Great Pottery Throw Down). Buyers learnt more about Keith’s relationship with clay and the creative process behind his products.
Also attracting crowds, RetailFest gave expert inspiration and advice for businesses, covering a range of topics from product photography, digital marketing, and building brand loyalty. Meanwhile, the new REVEAL Skills Studio hosted intimate workshops to help retailers build their brands.
